Q4 BLOCKER Partner Portal accounts required for commissioning
Starting Q4, every user who commissions a Powerwall system needs an active Partner Portal account.
A missing account will block commissioning.
• Log into Partner Portal to confirm your account is active
• Can't log in? Contact your company's Partner Admin for an account
OCT Certification counts for more in TIPS
From October, certification carries more weight in your Tesla Installer Performance Score.
• Ensure all installers have completed the Powerwall 3 Final Exam
• Each installer only needs to complete it once
LIVE TIPS dashboard now includes shared sites
Your TIPS Dashboard now shows installation quality on sites shared with your company.
• Overview shows a Combined score by default (your crew's jobs + shared partner sites)
• Filter: My Company / all external companies / each external company
• An external company's site appears only if shared with your company
• Path: Partner Portal → Resources → Performance Insights → Installer Performance (TIPS)
New navigation: Overview (Combined / My Company / External), Company Scores table, Individual Scores table. Quick Reference Guide replaced by the integrated Partner Portal TIPS Manual.
NEW Smart Charging — Charge on Solar + Low-Cost Charging
For Powerwall + Wall Connector customers:
• Low Cost Charging — builds a charging schedule from utility rates + available solar to deliver the lowest-cost session
• Charge on Solar — charges the EV from excess solar instead of selling to the grid
• Available for all PW + WC customers; Tesla intelligently manages EV charging for whole-home optimization
How it runs: user sets charging target + departure time → Opticaster builds the schedule (most solar / lowest cost) → after target is met (or if none set), charging continues only from excess solar (CoS) and lowest-cost energy (LCC).
Requirements: FW/SW 26.34 (Powerwall + Wall Connector), app 4.57.5 · Powerwall 2 or 3 · Wall Connector 3 or Universal Wall Connector (paired to PW) · Tesla or non-Tesla EV if WC-compatible
NEW Powerwall 3 / Powerwall 2 backwards compatibility
• Gateway 3 can replace Backup Gateway 1 — unblocks early Powerwall 2 systems
• Backup Gateway 2 can also replace Gateway 1 if available
• Service replacements: Tesla provides PW3 (+ Expansion(s)) to replace only the failed PW2 unit(s)
• Return only the failed units; healthy PW2 units can remain installed
Confirmed on the Sep 29 call: PW3↔PW2 backwards compatibility is available, and the service manual has been updated with the latest guidance — check Partner Portal resources for the current version before planning a mixed or replacement install.
Mixed PW3 + PW2 sites work fine. It wasn't something Tesla had really thought through before (per communication guidelines), but comms now handle it properly with the 3 system — mixing generations on one site is no longer a problem.
LIVE Tesla Assist — Powerhub chat + Partner Portal
Powerhub Live Chat: RMA status, shipping info, replacement hardware; escalates to Tesla Support with chat history intact.
Partner Portal chatbot also handles:
• Order lookup — status, line items, dates by RO or PO number
• Shipment tracking — carrier, tracking numbers, delivery dates
• Invoices & billing — open/paid invoices, payment history, due dates, overdue alerts
• Credit profile — limits, usage, available credit, outstanding balances
• Portal guidance — dashboards, orders, projects, users, resources, address book
• Certified Installer Program — marketing, fleet monitoring, tech support, RMA/returns
NEW ESP tickets for unregistered equipment (DIN)
You can now submit an Energy Service Portal ticket for equipment not yet registered to a customer (e.g. damaged in shipping):
1. In ESP: Create Concern
2. Dropdown: select DIN
3. Enter the equipment DIN + ticket info
• DIN already registered to a site → that site is auto-selected
• Site registered but you lack access → ticket blocked; contact a partner with access or Tesla to gain site access
SELL Cybertruck + PowerShare vs adding Powerwall — transition quality
• Cybertruck + PowerShare alone has a delay on backup transition — lights flicker, noticeable switchover
• Customers wanting a seamless, unnoticeable backup transition → that's where Powerwall comes in: always ready, always ready to take over instantly
• Straightforward upsell when a Cybertruck+PowerShare customer asks "what happens when the grid drops?"
DESIGN Multiple Powerwall systems on one property — keep it one site
Two Powerwall systems (same or different types) with two separate islanding connection devices (gateways) do NOT communicate with each other.
What that looks like:
• Customer sees separate sites in the app and must swipe between them
• Separate sites in PowerHub for the service installer to view
Recommendation: one site per install location when possible — monitor all the non-backed-up loads and run one system working together. That gives the best customer experience and backs up the most important things. Separate systems won't talk to each other, so avoid splitting unless the site forces it.
TIP Mobile app has built-in customer tutorials
The Tesla mobile app includes small built-in tutorials that walk customers through setup — point customers at them to help them configure settings and maximize their own benefit (rates, charging behavior, etc.) instead of hand-holding each one.
LIMIT Powerwall 3 Expansion — 13 ft (4 m) cable reach
• The PW3 Expansion unit connects via a 13-ft (4 m) cable — and there are no plans for a longer option (whatever variants existed are not being made any longer)
• If the site layout means the cable can't reach, spec a regular Powerwall 3 (non-expansion) instead
• Plan expansion-unit placement at design time — the cable length is the hard constraint
GUIDE PowerShare + Powerwall 3 — how to install today
Situation "will become clearer in the coming weeks," but here's the current guidance (Sep 29 call):
• Install the Powerwall 3 system as normal for customers with both PowerShare + PW3
• No PowerShare gateway needed — a regular Gateway 3 + Wall Connector is enough; PowerShare becomes available by following the PowerShare app notes (find them on the project/Partner Portal)
• PowerShare app notes have been updated with PW3 + PowerShare info
• Tesla is directly activating customers who own both products and working through their questions one-on-one
CHANNEL Resi Design Review — PowerShare / dynamic power management questions
Tesla is actively looking into dynamic power management on PowerShare + Powerwall sites.
• No inquiry in yet? Email residesignreview@tesla.com
• They answer once engineering has a response — don't block installs waiting on forum guesses
CHANNEL Tesla remote meter — UL listing documentation
A specific UL listing exists for the Tesla remote meter (AHJs/engineers sometimes ask for the exact one).
• Don't hunt for it — your Tesla account manager or technical sales rep will send the exact listing documentation
• Bring the meter model + the listing number the requester cited (if they have one) to speed it up
SOON Counter (meter) data activities — update expected next webinar
Tesla is currently working on counter data activities (metering/consumption data). Updates are expected at the next webinar — worth attending or catching the recording.
